The side entry is another great feature of the Deuter. As mentioned above, the design of the Osprey Poco really gives it an edge during nap time. The Thule Sapling has an adjustable hipbelt extender that slides out to fit waistlines from S, M to L. This ensures a fully padded hipbelt wrapping around the waist and allows for the best transfer of weight to the hips. The open-top design is far less secure for storing valuables and its plastic clip can be finicky to use. Most follow a basic formula that resembles a backpacking pack with an open cockpit for a child to sit. I have owned a Deuter Kid Comfort II for almost 4 years now and it is still my favorite carrier. Moreover, you lose the extra-thick front drool pad and hydration reservoir compatibility, plus the trimmed-down suspension doesnt carry a heavy load (or toddler) as well. Otherwise, we found children doze off for a bit, then wake up if they did not have a spot to secure their head. For starters, we dont like that the bottom storage compartment doesnt include a zipper. The pack has the same excellent kid seat design and mesh backpanel that ventilates well and is easy to adjust. The Thule Sapling also comes with a sunshade, but it is removable. Theyre great for quick jaunts, but for longer day hikes, we find it well worth the upgrade to a comfort pack. If I could come up with my own pack I think it would be a mash-up of the Osprey and Deuter with a few of the little features from the Thule.
